Playing for a Roll on a Breakout
From this position you can shoot the l-ball into pocket #3 and proceed directly into the 4-ball cluster. At the worst, you should have a safety to play because the 2 will be traveling to an open part of the table. First calculate your odds of getting hooked when playing for a roll on a breakout. If they are high, pass on the breakout and play safe instead.
When to Ride the Money Ball
This position can come as a result of a poorly broken rack. If you are playing an opponent who poses little threat of running out, or if you feel like occasionally taking a whack at the balls just to break up the routine, then this is as good a time as any. Use a very hard stroke and draw the cue ball back, almost like you're playing another break shot.
